Watching this interview, I must confess that I have been severe in my condemnation of Miss Rand. The biggest thing I condemn her for is naïveté. She disposed exploitation, yet esteems the American businessman. The names enshrined in the annals of American business (Carnegie, Rockefeller, Vanderbilt, etc) all achieved their level of success through exploitation, force (brutal suppression of strikes), as well as deception and manipulation. She (as well as Adam Smith) see capitalism through rose-colored glasses. Their theoretical capitalism does not nor has it ever existed in history. It has always been a form of exploitation of owners selling the labor of its workers (through value added by the labor process) for more than it paid for it. The natural business transactions that transpire between men is not what they are speaking of, having existed since the beginning of human existence and need no apologetics. What they are in awe of is the pyramiding of industrial capitalism through blinded eyes
