Water Competition....Winner! This was NOT easy. So so many fantastic entries, how does one choose, weve all had our favourites. First thing any judge looks for is relevance to the theme, to which they all easily met. Second thing is image impact, the photographers eye and vision, some of which were higher than others; possibly subjective to a degree, but I was going on those images that stuck in my mind over the past week, those which my mind kept going back to. Its why, given the opportunity, I prefer to take a little time in consideration. Technical ability is taken into account in any competition but that ranks the lowest in my books. Ive seen superb images taken with the most simple plastic cameras where the only control was....none. After narrowing them down, I came to my decision. Water is an interesting subject, having no shape of its own per se. It can be represented in 3 forms (solid, liquid, gas/steam) - it was wonderful to see two of the entries portray it as such, one entry being two kinds of frozen (snowflakes and icicles together). One image my mind kept consistently going back to was one that for some reason always makes me smile - it made me smile when I first saw it and it still does now...Im not even sure if its water; well I know it is but it looks more sea foam. It reminds me of water doing a happy dance, if such an act is possible. Its imbued with a life and feeling all its own. So this is my winning choice. I expect another competition will emerge very soon with another theme and judge. Hopefully well all continue to submit even more images to it. If you didnt win this particular one, dont be disheartened; its all in good fun and judging by the standard of entries, it really is very difficult to choose from. Happy shooting everybody. :)
