Water Services Act 2013 no 2 section (8) Irish Water shall not, by reason of a charge in respect of a dwelling being wholly or partly unpaid, discontinue the supply of water to that dwelling either temporarily or permanently. That is all you need to know if you are worried about them cutting off your water supply... So how do they get you to pay if they cant cut your water? Water Services Act 2013 no 2 section (4) Where a customer fails to pay a charge under this section, it shall be recoverable by Irish Water as a simple contract debt in any court of competent jurisdiction. They have to take you to court, like any other business or utility that you CONTRACT (apply for, request services from) with so that you are forced to pay for breach of contract.. Simple contract debt This is a debt which arises because you have not paid for goods or services which are not covered by any special rules. For example, if you buy goods using a cheque and the cheque is not honoured, there is a simple contract debt to the seller. If you avail of the services of a plumber and do not pay him, there is a simple contract debt to the plumber. The seller or the plumber can go to court to get judgment against you and then enforce that judgment. A range of legislation provides that various fees and levies which have not been paid may be dealt with in court in the same way as simple contract debts. Thats it... ~Belenus
