Water is a most unusual liquid. It is made up of two hydrogen atom and one oxygen atom, with a combined molecular weight only 18 daltons. Yet it is a liquid at room temperature, while many very similar, or heavier , molecules are gases under everyday condition. Carbon di oxide , for example, has a molecular weight 44, hydrogen sulfide 34, methane 16 and nitrogen di oxide 46. According to the standard interpretations of the way Van deer Waals attraction operates between molecules, water has no right to be a liquid under the conditions that prevail on the surface of earth. And yet, not only water a liquid , it is so far and away it is the most vital liquid for us that 75% of our body weight is in the form of molecules of H2O(water). How can this be?_____--Molecules of life, In search of double helix.
