Waters of Refreshment As a deer pants for flowing streams, so - TopicsExpress

Waters of Refreshment As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. Psalm 42:1 David was well acquainted with the terrain of a semi-arid country. It is reasonable to assume that he would have seen a deer, almost consumed by thirst, panting "for flowing streams" that lay beyond the far horizon. Would the struggling animal Make it to the trickling brook and be refreshed? The psalmist likens himself to the fainting deer. His troubled heart of in desperate need of the refreshment only God can give. And so he cries out: "As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for You, O God." Only God could quench his deepest thirst. Has life ever brought us to pass- where our soul panted after God " as a deer pants for flowing streams"? If so thank God our Lord was always there-right beside us-in the person of our Redeemer, who died and rose for us. Every life had its arid stretches, where the horizons seems bleak and burning. But our Lord has assured us that the water of His Word shall always refresh us. There we will find pardon, peace, and strength for the stretch that lies ahead. Lord God, heavenly Father, give me daily refreshment in the gospel of Jesus Christ, my Savior. AMEN
