Waverley Beat Surrey Police - Farnham facebook/permalink.php?story_fbid=673861389327113&id=368555616524360&stream_ref=1 Series of smash and grabs from cars in Farnham: Police in Waverley are urging residents to remain vigilant following three thefts from vehicles in Farnham on the same day last week. One brazen offender smashed a side window of a gold Volvo which was parked on Bridgefield, Farnham and stole a Stihl leaf blower. The incident happened in broad daylight at around 9.15am on Thursday 27 February and witnesses describe the suspect as a white man around 18-20 years-old wearing trainers. On the same day in Hale Road, Farnham between 9.00am and 9.45am someone threw a brick through the window of a blue Ford Transit British Gas vehicle parked on Park Road in Farnham. A sat-nav was taken from the glove box. In a third incident someone used a brick to smash the front offside window of a green Renault Clio which was parked in Anstey Road, Farnham sometime between 2am – 12.42pm and made off with a sat nav and mobile phone charger from the glove box. Temporary Inspector for Waverley Rachel Griffiths said: Two of these offences took place in broad daylight and someone must have seen someone acting suspiciously around the vehicles. We would like to hear from anyone who has any information so we can progress the investigation and bring any offenders to justice.” Police advise motorists to take the following steps to reduce vehicle crime: • Always lock your car when you leave it, even if its just for a few moments. Make sure windows and sunroofs are shut and locked too. • Never leave any personal possessions in your car. Thieves love to steal sat navs, laptops and mobile phones. But less obvious items such as clothes and loose change are also appealing. • Dont leave valuables hidden in your boot or under car seats. Thieves know where to look. • Dont store driving or vehicle documents in your glove box. Keep them stored safely at home. • If your car doesnt have an alarm, get one fitted or use a steering lock to deter thieves. • Look after your car keys. Keep them on you when out and about. When at home keep them hidden and not in view of a window, door or letterbox. • Secure your number plate with clutch head screws to avoid becoming a victim of ‘car cloning. Keep your eye out for potential car criminals. If you see someone looking inside cars or trying door handles call Surrey Police on 101. In an emergency always call 999.
