Way back when this song topped the American Top 40 charts, this very week in 1976, I asked a local record shop owner to order the single. Through an honest error, when it came, the shop owner had ordered Beethovens 5th Symphony. When I got the record home, and put it on the player, it was The New York Philharmonic Orchestra performing Beethovens 5th Symphony, and not this pop music inspired disco era rendition of the song. To real music purists, at the time, this was considered a travesty, to use such a timeless classic as Beethovens 5th in this manner. I thoroughly enjoyed the. Real version by the orchestra, and kept the classic record. Every time I hear this pop music version, it brings back the memory of an honest mistake by a small town record shop owner, that inadvertently exposed me to the true classic piece of music that inspired this. Here is what I had ordered, and didnt get, soooo many years ago. Enjoy this walk down the AT40 memory lane, this very week in 1976.... A number one song from the distant past.
