Way too early of an ending for this hard working team. After beating Romney Friday, the Post 2 Jr team took aim at Ripley. It didnt look good early. Ripley took a 1 run lead to start the first. Conner Kelly evened it up in the bottom of the inning after reaching on a fielders choice and moving up on a wild pitch, he scored on a fielders choice off Sam Croppers bat. Ripley kept scratching out runs while holding Post 2 at bay and after the top of the 6th Ripley was up 6-1. Then look out! Post 2 broke out the sticks and put up 10 runs to take the game 11-6. Zane Gallagher headed the charge with 3 hits, a homer short of the cycle. He had 4 rbi in the 6th!!! Jaret Kennedy and Kyle Poland each added 2 hits including a double each. Conner Kelly and Cam Wisman took care of holding Ripley off on the mound. Then came a really good Beckley team. Zane Gallagher wasted no time getting us a one run lead in the top of the 1st. Gallagher was 3-4 on the day and started things off with a single. He moved to 2nd in a walk to Conner Kelly and scored on a Jaret Kennedy single. Down 2-1 in the 3rd Kelly who was hit by a pitch, promptly stole second and scored on an error to tie things up. Down 4-2 in the 7th, Post 2 never quit. Jeff Petty started things off with a walk. He moved to third on a single by Alex Slates and scored when Kelly hit into a fielders choice. Unfortunately the would be comeback fell short. Dustin Freeman pitched amazingly, it just didnt work out. We opened bracket play against Potomac Valley. Jacob Kiehl got the nod on the mound and was brilliant thru 6 innings. It was scoreless until the bottom of the 3rd. Tyler Kisling got on by a fielders choice and moved to second on a wild pitch. He then moved to third on an Alex Slates single. Slates then stole second. Zane Gallagher then continued his hot hitting, plating both runners with a single. Pot Val answered with one in the 4th. Post 2 got the run right back in their half. Jaret Kennedy got a 2 out single. Consecutive hit by pitches to Dustin Freeman and Kyle Poland and a walk to Kisling plated Kennedy. The good guys added a run in the 5th when Sam Cropper tripled home Conner Kelly who had singled. A blown balk call cost us an additional run and would come back to haunt us. Pot Val tied it with a 3 run 7th before plating an unearned run in the 8th to bring our season to an end. Our boys held their heads high because they gave it all they had until the end. This is a remarkable team and after all is said and done is still the 2014 JR LEGION STATE CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!
