Ways the National Security State has come to my university- 1 Regular fire drills which interrupt classes. We never had ANY such drills before 9/11-now we have them two or three times a semester. 2. A form that pops up on my Fordham server which demands I add a second person to my Emergency contact form and blocks me from all operations on the site, including getting and sending email. The form, unfortunately, is difficult to impossible to fill out properly, meaning I cannot use my Fordham email this entire weekend These impositions are part of a pattern of control and management of individual lives which PRESUMES emergency attacks are likely. There are definitely elements of a self-fulfilling prophecy in such thinking Fear is a terrible thing when it dominates a society and its political system
