We Have An Altar. We have an altar, Hebrews 13:10a. And thou shalt make an altar, Exodus 27:1a. and 30:1a. Moses also made two distinct altars that were part of the furniture in the tabernacle. One was the altar of burnt offerings and the other was the altar of incense cf. Ex. 27:1-8:301-7. One was overlaid with brass, the other with gold. One was to burn the sacrifices, the other was to burn incense. They were both significant in the sacrificial offerings for the children of Israel. The brazen altar speaks, I believe of judgement. Paul said, For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. First Cor. 11:31. Peter proclaimed that, judgement must begin at the house of God : First Pet. 4:17. Every Christian would do well to examine themselves and pass judgement honestly on their own lives. Christ Jesus spoke plainly in Matthew and Luke about seeing others motes and ignoring the beams that obscure the problems in our own backyards ! The altar of increase is a type of the prayers of the saints that continually and aromatically. If it pleases to God go up daily from our needly hearts. Too many of us spend the bulk of our time begging, when we ought to be blessing. We plod our way through our prayer lists, when we should be praising God for His benevolence. These two pieces of furniture are altars that typify dealing with self and relaying on God. -T.G.
