We Must Learn To Live In Moderation Philippians 4:5-7 Moderation is defined as the quality of being calm; restraint; avoidance of extremes or excesses; temperance. Moderation is difficult, but the rewards of moderation are numerous and long-lasting. We must claim our rewards today. Gods word instructs us to be moderate. Learn to control your thoughts instead of letting your thoughts control you. We must say no to anger, pride, jealousy, gossip, slander, a sharp tongue, worldly pursuits, and sin in general. Keep in mind also that even good things that are not sinful may become so if they become controlling, consuming, or compelling in our lives. The book of Ecclesiastes is a great example of moderation. King Solomon was the wisest king to ever rule over Israel, and he experimented with excess. King Solomon lists many different projects and pleasures he pursued: “I denied myself nothing my eyes desired; I refused my heart no pleasure. My heart took delight in all my labor, and this was the reward of all my toil. Yet, in the end, he was left unsatisfied. When we are not living in moderation, when we lack self-control in a certain area of our lives, it can indicate that we’re not allowing God fully into that area. We need not live in defeat. God does not condemn His children and we have been granted the victory over every sin. I come by this morning to give you a word of encouragement that will help you to be mighty men and women of God. We need to exercise self-restraint even in areas of life that are proper yet may begin to receive unreasonable amounts of time, thought, or effort. A balanced life is a must for us to acceptably serve the Lord and to be fit for the Masters use. God wants us to enjoy life within a framework of balance. We must learn to live in moderation. Be blessed and I love you!!! JE
