We Seaplane Pilots are taught to keep the yoke/stick back when taxiing and idle slowly to avoid damage to the prop by the water (water cuts steel). Heres a brief example of how props get damaged. We had a 10 knot tailwind coming in to dock at idle taxi. The wind was weather vaning the plane away from the dock so the pilot gave it a brief burst of power to turn the plane. Notice the cyclone of water created by the prop.
