We Stand Corrected We were headed for Teluk Intan. Dr Ibrahim was delivering two slaughtered goats and a lot of fishes to Ustaz Ariffin, a religious teacher who had been teaching theology at his clinic in Seri Gombak. We were four in the car, him taking trouble to correct the impression I had been given concerning the research done on the Meliponi bee in Malaysia. The research had been primarily the work of Mardi. Mardi, the national agricultural research institute, identified 35 species and discovered the means of increasing the production of honey in some of these making them viable as a high income industrial base in the rural. Now the job is about attracting graduates to work on the industry and Dr Ibrahim’s company may be selected to be one of the parent groups working jointly with the Terengganu state government for the purpose. Sungai Jang, where I was living in Dr Ibrahim’s farm, is outside the parameters of all wireless Internet transmissions. It is almost surrounded by hill ranges. I have to connect from outside Sungai Jang to check on any version of the story I may have acquired. Time was the main constraint. I was travelling every day, meeting people or failing to meet them. The doctor felt it sad and was spending energy to correct the impressions. The industry isn’t new in Malaysia or in these parts of the world. The largest operator in Malaysia is an entrepreneur in Melaka, Mr. Ong. With about 1,000 hives he would have a turnover of a few million per year if he could meet Mardi’s rate of production. The Penang state gomen is promoting the industry by using it as a tourist attraction. It does look suitable to dot the hills on the island with the hives. Terengganu, which has alloted Mardi an island for its continued research, may place Dr Ibrahim’s joint-outfit on another island in the Kenyir Lake, not where I would like to spend the rest of my life. Right now I am back on the road, this time looking for a job or an industrial partner. In my place you simply must ignore the normal. Few would bother to believe you can do a better job at 72 than most people can half your age. Expecting the paranormal to approve of you is best discounted. So you simply move on, like now I have about 500 pieces of Chengai roots suitable for art pieces or sculptures to dispose to a single or to multiple buyers. These are like driftwood. If interested, please call Ghani at 019-3769821 or email a.ghani.ismail@gmail for an appointment to view the product. Meanwhile I am spending a few days looking for myths and legends on the Meliponi.
