We, Steeler fans, take great pride in celebrating the integrity and class our ownership and organization have but its becoming increasingly obvious that we cant afford to live in a vacuum. The NFL, whether its due to its own responsibilities not being met, the tendency for society to expect it to solve all its ails by example or combination of the two, is taking some serious hits. Hits that can damage the very league in which we are a part. Regardless, there needs to be a clear cut policy or set of policies that govern what the league can do and when it can do it. Regardless of whether we believe its an employers place to punish someone for their actions outside of work, the fact remains that they will given the visibility of all involved. What needs to happen is a clear and reasonable expectation of when to act (and when not to act as well). Given the length of time the legal process can take, it almost certainly has to happen before the legal system runs its course. Yet what if they are suspended until the legal course is run? Suppose they are cleared of all charges and youve taken three years of their professional career away? This is indeed a slippery slope...
