We all know gardening in central Florida is, well, challenging. What with the heat, humidity, hurricanes, sandy soil, nematodes, and occasional very cold winters its a wonder we dont just throw in the towel and say to heck with gardening. Try as we might though, that soil just keeps calling us back and before we know it were digging in the dirt again. Did you know the University of Florida put together tons of information to help us gardeners enjoy digging in the soil even more? Yep, the link below has a database of Florida Friendly Plants as well as great tips on garden design, fertilizing, watering, insect control, and so much more. It makes me very happy that their philosophies on gardening are absolutely in line with my own way of thinking, ie, putting the right plant in the right place, designing for the mature size of the plant, letting natures good bugs take care of the bad bugs, using fertilizer wisely (more is definitely not better), mulch is awesome, etc. This publication is absolutely one of my go-to references when Im creating a garden design or looking for am answer to a customers question. Trust me on this... youre gonna like what you read. floridayards.org/index.php
