We apologize for leaving out part of this story last week. It was supposed to be jumped to page 5 but somehow got left off. So here it is in full. Pearson Elementary students take top prizes at Science Fair Hundreds of students from counties throughout the region gathered at South Georgia State College recently to participate in the South Georgia State College Regional Science and Engineering Fair. Science projects are important components of the curriculum in many elementary, middle and high schools. Students choose a particular problem they would like to investigate. Then, using the scientific method, they conduct their experiments and write a report of their research. A few of the topics from the most recent science fair include A Dirty Little Secret, Risk Rot? Fear Not, It’s a Twin Thing, and Don’t Be in the Hot Seat, to name a few. Judges reviewed the projects using several criteria, including neatness, thoroughness, proper source citation and adherence to the scientific method. Organizers then presented participants with awards after all scores had been tabulated. In the third grade division, three top prize winners were awarded as well as three honorable mention. Winning one of these prestigious awards was PES third grader Laura Torres, student of Kathy Bennett. Laura received the 2nd Place Overall 3rd Grade trophy. In the fourth grade division, three top prize winners were awarded as well as three honorable mention. PES (Continued on Page 5) won three of the six awards in fourth grade. Winning fourth grade overall trophies were: Kate Brulte (student of Michelle Moore and Stanley Carver) 1st Place Overall 4th Grade trophy; Brendan Torres and Jose Mejia (students of Michelle Moore and Stanley Carver) 2nd Place Overall 4th Grade trophy; and Blaine Bennett and Cole Edge (students of Michelle Moore, Stanley Carver, Amanda Webb, and Brandi Steedley) 4th Grade Honorable Mention Trophy.
