We are 2 days from Election Day and this is such an important election. I would like to address the allegations my opponent had made in The HawkEye newspaper article today and other media. He alleges that I have been running the office in the same manner as my predecessor. He does not want the voters to know that I have been continuing to try cases even after becoming County Attorney. He fails to mention that while I have been trying cases, handling the civil legal side for the County, and running the office, he has been withdrawing from his cases for the past several months so that he can spend time campaigning. That is the exact reason he cited to the Court. Leaving his clients without counsel, and leaving it up to the judges to find attorneys for those individuals. He doesnt want the voters to know that we have also been working behind the scenes to ensure our office is ready for the conversion to online Court filing that starts Nov. 18th, He fails to mention that he had the opportunity to apply to be County Attorney after the former County Attorney retired, but did not do so. I took over in the midst of challenge, and have turned the office around. Mr. Henkelvig did not care enough about our citizens to want to take the position in a time of challenge. Yet he stands in the background with inaccurate accusations. He further has taken the position that outsourcing the civil legal work is fine because the County Attorneys office has a budget and so is not free. This argument is superfluous. The taxpayers will be paying more if the work is outsourced, as he hasnt offered to cut his salary for doing less work if he is elected. Please consider carefully who you want as your Des Moines County Attorney. A vote for me is a vote for positive change, hard work, and dedication to our community.
