We are all guilty of hypocrisy. I have a family member that was raised up dirt poor. They lived 10 deep in a two bedroom shotgun house. They finally made it to middle class; they purchased a house and their neighbors came on hard times and had to move 5 extra people into their home. That made a total of 8 people in a two bedroom home. We’ll my relative joined the neighborhood association and reported them, because it violated a homeowner association policy and they were forced to put their relatives out of the house. Hypocrisy Right! I have friends that went to college with me. Periodically we would have a few drinks when we went out, drive uninsured cars and even on suspended or expired tags/ license because we couldn’t afford to keep it up nor call a cab if we had two drinks in a club. These same friends have graduated and life’s been good for them. Money is flowing and now they are first in line to support stiff penalties on uninsured motorist and DUI roadblocks and even penalties for being arrested for them. By the way, under state laws now two beers can get you a DUI. As Christians, it’s always good to reflect of your own struggles in life before you make decisions that may oppress a group of people that were once you. Jesus fought for the underdogs and so are we supposed to as followers. In both situations, safety was the issue, but we should remember that fear is not of God. 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” All laws aren’t design to protect us and we should know that because slavery was legal at once. The only one that can bring a life or take one away is God and nothing happens without his permission. We should always see both sides of the story before we make decisions that can oppress a minority that was once us.
