We are all so happy to announce that precious Ally has returned - TopicsExpress

We are all so happy to announce that precious Ally has returned home! Friday was a day full of procedures as Ally had a chemotherapy port placed. This will allow for a more permanent way for her to receive her treatments. The port will be placed under her skin so she won’t be able to pull it out. While in the hospital, they put Ally on a regular pain regimen. She felt strong enough to ask to go to the playroom. The she spent 15 minutes coloring. Unfortunately, after 15 minutes, she had to leave as it was time for her scheduled echocardiogram. This upset her, but she quickly got over it as Paw Patrol was on while they were performing the test. The blessing of being in a children’s hospital is that the specialists, as well as every staff member, have resources available to them to try to keep each indivual child happy...and today, Paw Patrol kept Ally happy :) This was Ally’s second echocardiogram since she arrived in Kansas City. The doctors were not concerned, they just wanted to monitor any changes that might have occurred. The main means of transportation in the hospital is by a wagon that is readily available when needed. Carly and Brian took Ally from the playroom to the echocardiogram in that wagon. After the procedure was over, Ally specifically requested to walk back to her room. The fact that she found the strength to perform this task is another blessing. And of course, she immediately asked Brian and Carly to put Paw Patrol back on her TV :) Recently, a day in Ally’s life is filled with procedures. Someone is constantly poking at her for new results. The Childrens Hospital continues to make this transition as easy as possible. While having a procedure done, Ally got a visit from the “Music Lady.” As Ally was undergoing testing, the Music Lady played the guitar, sang nursery rhymes, sang along to books (Ally’s favorite), and allowed Ally to participate and play instruments as well. In her own words, Ally “loves the Music Lady.” She was able to effectively distract her, and Ally is looking forward to her next visit. I think that we may have a future musician in Ally! God bless the sweet “Music Lady.” Unlike most nights, Ally had a big appetite. She ate fried chicken, mashed potatoes, corn, and a roll. When she saw Carly drinking out of a water bottle, she also wanted a drink of water. While Carly cannot share with her (the chemotherapy can be in Ally’s saliva and be harmful to Baby Brady), she got Ally her own water bottle and she drank quite a bit. This seems like a small feat, but Ally defining her needs is definitely positive progress! There has been a reoccurring theme with Allys updates. The technicians commented on how “easy she was” while undergoing a test. Also, the paramedics in the ambulance that transported her to Wichita commented on how polite she was. Several doctors and nurses that have worked with Ally have mentioned how respectful she is, despite her pain. Thank you, Lord, for blessing Ally with the perfect parents to guide her through not only this obstacle, but through life! Ally went to bed that night watching her favorite show, Full House :) Ally’s MRI came back normal! While we are still unsure of the exact cause of Ally’s mouth issues, the doctors are confident that everything major has been ruled out, and that this problem will correct itself! She tried very hard to suck out of a straw and showed much determination. While not completely successful, her effort is showing progress! God bless Ally’s strong will! Ally’s echocardiogram also came back normal! Thank you all for your prayers – please continue to pray as they are definitely being heard. Everything went well with the spinal tap and placement of the treatment port, and was discharged from the hospital! Carly and Brian will travel to Kansas City 1-2 times a week for Ally’s outpatient procedures. While Allys arrival is very exciting, it is crucial that she does not receive any visitors once she’s back at home. At this time, Ally is extremely vulnerable to diseases. A runny nose to you or me could be life threatening to Ally. So please, continue to support and encourage this family… from a distance :) The doctors are very hopeful that Ally will be in remission after 28 days of treatment. These first 6 months are crucial to her remaining healthy, and Ally will not be considered cancer free for 5 years. The staff at the hospital continued to get a kick out of Ally’s personality! She let them all know today that her name was Ally with 2 L’s :) In addition to her chemo every Friday, Ally will have a home health aide that comes to Salina every Thursday to take bloodwork. Depending on those results, her healthcare team will know what to expect and will be able to better prepare for her Friday arrival. For example, if her platelets are low on Thursday, they will give her a blood transfusion before she receives her chemotherapy on Friday. On January 28th, Ally will test to see if she’s in remission! The fact that Ally is being prayed for by so many people bring Carly and Brian so much comfort. Although she was stable enough to return home, she still has a long rode ahead of her…so please continue to pray! Share this and continue the support! :) #Allysarmy
