We are, by nature, rebellious. We long for the forbidden fruit. When God says Dont, he means, Dont hurt yourself. However, when God says Dont, something inside of us says, But dont you want to? Wouldnt it be fun? That isnt Satan talking. Thats our sin nature talking. Satan simply tries to create a world culture that parades sin in front of us, legitimizes sin and removes as many barriers between us and sin as possible so that our nature will take over and lead us to destruction and death. We have to maintain a humble and submissive attitude toward God so that we will stand up against our rebellious nature. We need to come to God each day with a Yes, LORD attitude. This is done best, not out of fear, but out of love. The greatest commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind because love for God will lead us away from our rebellious desires and bring them into submission to our love for Christ. We should sin less, not because the law says so, but because we love Jesus and He says so. Legalism will never quell your rebellion. Only love will. If youre mired and struggling with persistent sin in your life and you long to be free from it, stop trying to white knuckle your way through. That will never work. You dont have it in you. Instead, run into the loving arms of Jesus. Read His word and see how much He loves you. Pray to him. Pour out your heart and invest in a personal relationship with Him. This is the way to life and freedom. But sin, making opportunity by the commandment, produced in me all manner of evil desire. For apart from the law sin was dead. I was alive once without the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died. And the commandment, which was to bring life, I found to bring death. For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me. - Romans 7:8-11
