We are coming DOWN TO THE WIRE!!! Have you gotten your comments in to the USFWS yet? Not sure what to say? Copy and paste this letter below and please share! Comment Link: regulations.gov/#!submitComment;D=FWS-HQ-ES-2013-0073-43030 Example letter to copy and paste: Dear Secretary Jewell and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service: Please keep wolves protected in the lower 48. The proposed gray wolf delisting is not based on the best available science. This proposed delisting rule undermines decades of conservation work done to protect the keystone species gray wolf, and it sets a bad precedent for future Endangered Species Act delistings. Delisting the gray wolf would stifle recovery at a time when conservation gains are only beginning in the Pacific Northwest with recovery yet to start in California, Colorado, Utah, and the Northeast, where scientists have identified a significant amount of suitable habitat that would support wolf populations. States where wolves have already been delisted (Wisconsin, Minnesota, UP Michigan, Montana, Wyoming and Idaho) are not managing their wolves like other wildlife -- instead their goal is to aggressively hunt, trap and poison wolf packs to keep the bare minimum of wolves required by law. Scientists also unanimously agree that Mexican gray wolves should be listed as a separate endangered subspecies that belong permanently on the Southwest’s landscape. With only 83 remaining in the wild at the end of 2013, it is imperative that the Service list the essential Mexican wolves immediately without waiting to see what happens with the USFWS nationwide treatment of the gray wolf. There is public outcry. The vast majority of Americans want wolves in their wild environment. There are many effective non-lethal wolf management programs available to ranchers, and incentives need to be made to the ranching community to make them participate. Coexistence is a reality, but at this critical time, wolves will thrive only if they remain protected. Secretary Jewell, please follow the science, and keep gray wolves listed on the Endangered Species Act. Thank you.
