We are coming up on the end of Step One in treating this brain - TopicsExpress

We are coming up on the end of Step One in treating this brain cancer. This coming Thursday, the 15th, Jason will complete his final radiation treatment. What this treatment has done to Jasons body and mind was something we were not prepared for. After Jasons surgery and after his stroke, there was only 2 times that I saw any weakness come from my husband; both of those times only lasting less than 1 minute. Once the treatment plan was laid out to us and we knew radiation was going to be the first stop, Jason began to worry about what this treatment would present in terms of long and short side effects. We were assured by his panel of doctors that he would most definitely handle the radiation beautifully. They eased some of Jasons concerns about losing his memory and his ability to speak correctly. They just simply didnt think he would experience those issues. They could not have been more wrong. As I have documented in the early weeks of him beginning treatment, Jason had some initial swelling that cause a bevy of obstacles- migraines, edema, word placement, etc. We managed to get those things under control with the help of steroids, pain meds, reduction of pain meds, and perseverance. Now that we are facing our last 4 days of radiation, Jason is experiencing some of those issues from early on. He is having extreme difficulty thinking of what he wants to say, carrying on a conversation with him is almost impossible, and his memory is clearly damaged. It has been very difficult for me to watch him struggle, but I know the end is in sight, so that gets us through the day. Please continue to pray for Jason. As we finish this radiation and we wait for 3 weeks to go have the MRI scan, please pray his brain begins to heal and repair. Pray for us to remain focused on the end goal and not so consumed with the waiting. February 9th will come soon enough and I will give God all the glory when the doctors tell us his scan is clear. I will cast my worries aside and trust in the Lord. People heal because of three things: medicine, prayer and love. Jason has the best of all three in his corner. I don’t have a lot of numbers and statistics to throw at you because I wouldn’t give a damn what they said: Jason is going to be just fine. He has to be because I cant live without him. xoxo Christy
