We are delighted to announce that the Ayrshire & Wigtownshire CAMRA Pub of the Year, the Steam Packet Inn, Isle of Whithorn, has won the overall Scotland and Northern Ireland Branches (SNIB) Pub of the Year award. A very well deserved award for Alastair Scoular and his staff. The pub will now go forward with all the other regional finalists to compete for the National Pub of the Year award. A presentation has been arranged for next Saturday, 20th September - apologies for the short notice but the info was embargod until the release of the good beer Guide today. A bus has been booked for the trip to the Isle of Whithorn with the following pick-up points: • Kilwinning Railway Station at 0930 • Kilmarnock on Campbell Street (bus stop under fly-over) at 0950 • Prestwick on Main Street (opposite Co-op) at 1005 • Ayr on Station Road (bus stop opposite rear car park of railway station) at 1015. We will be visiting the House O’Hill, Bargrennan (1130-1230); Steam Packet Inn, Isle of Whithorn (1315-1500); Wigtown Ploughman, Wigtown (1535-1610); Galloway Arms Hotel, Newton Stewart (1620-1650); Creebridge House Hotel, Newton Stewart (1700-1800). Return to Ayr to arrive approximately 1930, then reverse route to Kilwinning. The charge for the bus will £15.00 per head.
