We are getting dumber and dumber: I just bought a new can of shaving cream and as I was tossing the old one out something caught my eye. The old one had a warning on the back: Warning: contents under pressure. Do not puncture or incinerate. Do not store at temperatures above 120F. Keep out of reach of children. That tells even the dumbest dill-weed all he needs to know about shaving cream safety. But no. Evidently there were some shaving cream casualties in the six months or so between my purchases. The new can has the following in a larger font in all caps: CAUTION: CONTENTS UNDER PRESSURE. DO NOT PLACE IN HOT WATER OR NEAR RADIATORS, STOVES, OR OTHER SOURCES OF HEAT. DO NOT PUNCTURE OR INCINERATE CONTAINER AT TEMPERATURES OVER 48C/120F. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. Well, they downgraded from a warning to a caution. Must not have had any fatalities. I suspect the people for which the warning was not informative enough were Canadians. They had to add the Celsius temperature because it was too hard for some old guy in Nova Scotia to decide if 120F was hot before chucking the can into his hot tub. Also, they saw the need to give us some examples of what produces heat in our homes. I think upon discovery of fire, most people got a handle on that. But that is not all. The new can also has a warning on the front of the can in New Times Roman 26 pt: CAUTION/ATTENTION: CONTAINER MAY EXPLODE IF HEATED. And all these cautions on the new can are repeated in French. Narrowing down our dumb-ass Canadians to Quebec. Evidently the Mexicans can work it out for themselves.
