We are glad to have been asked to perform and participate in the Ireland Immersion Weekend in Brentwood, Tennessee! More information about it: The main purpose of The Irish Gift is that of education and the passing on of the old traditions of Ireland The best and only way to accomplish this goal is by having a full Irish cultural immersion weekend. In this way, everyone can enjoy all aspects of the culture including the food, drink, entertainment and the education. This immersion weekend is a dedication to Tom Crean, who loved music and who did a lot in his own way to promote and preserve the East Galway music tradition and the old traditions of Ireland. It also honors Eddie Kelly (a legendary fiddle-player from East Galway) and his contribution to traditional Irish music. This years annual event will be held at a beautiful plantation mansion just outside of Nashville. This immersion weekend will get started on Friday, November 15th with a tasting of some of the best Irish and Scotch whiskeys. Guests will enjoy a buffet to include homemade Irish brown and soda bread, fresh salmon and other authentic Irish culinary delights. Entertainment will be provided by the musicians who have been flown in from Ireland , a performance in the best of Irish music, song & dance. Saturday will feature lectures and demonstrations from 10am to 12 noon and 2pm to 4pm. Guests will enjoy a real Irish breakfast in the beautiful mansion setting and mingle and chat with musicians, lecturers and performers in a relaxed format before the lectures begin at 10am (breakfast from 8am to 10am). From noon to 2pm the hurlers will be in full-swing giving us a demonstration of the game and how it is played. Guests will enjoy a delicious lunch of homemade delights (recipes all from Ireland) as we learn more about hurling and other Gaelic sports. There will also be an opportunity to have a one-on-one or group lesson on an instrument of your choice. Please bring your instrument in order to be able to participate in this part of the weekend. You will also be able to take a jaunt in real donkey and cart! So lots to do over this immersion weekend. Lectures will resume at 2pm where everyone will gain a deeper understanding of the different facets of the Irish culture including East Galway style of music (with demonstrations on the respective instruments), seanos singing, seanos dancing, bodhran accompaniment, history and tourism in Ireland, to mention just a few topics. At 4pm we will enjoy some displays from the Connemara pony team. These ponies have been bred in Ireland and are flown over to the WindyIslesFarms near Chicago in IL. This team will be on display all weekend so guests can have the opportunity to learn more about the ponies and take a ride. At 6pm there will be more authentic Irish food available and the concert will kick off at 7pm with performances from all the artists who are participating over the weekend. After the concert there will be an opportunity to sit and relax over a pint in the lovely surroundings of the mansion and cogitate over the the wonderful days events! Sunday will begin with a Celtic Christian service at 10am followed by an Irish brunch and music where everyone can relax again and mingle with friends, old and new.
