We are in danger of being trapped in an economic structure where we have to create jobs just for jobs sake. A large point of civilisation is to allow us all to work less hours per day on our survival. The point of technology is to make life easier and better. When these points conflict with our economic structure, the structure needs to change. We want more free time. We want to spend it being useful and creative, to advance art and science and human knowledge, without restriction from things like having to earn a pay packet. The economic structure needs to adapt so that we are “allowed” to have free time to spend on advancement. We cant do this when our economy requires work where the need doesnt exist.
