We are introducing a new section on our Facebook page & website. A dancer from TDA will be interviewed each month. We will be showing short clip of them dancing along with a few Q&A. Keep checking in to see why our students love to dance, what they are achieving & what they hope to achieve in the future. Feature dancer of the month - January - Calum Gray How long have you been dancing? Over eight years What is your favourite dance genre & why? My favourite dance genre is ballet, for me its expression as an art form as any other genre of dance but also requires discipline not found in many other forms of dance. What is it about dance that you really enjoy? I enjoy everything that dance offers. I enjoy the athleticism dance requires but unlike any sport, dance is also therapeutic because it gets rid of a lot of excess energy, thought and worry off my mind, it lets you think about nothing else but what you are doing in the moment. In regards to dance what would you like to be doing 5 years from now? Although I have no defined path for the next few years I would like to within a couple of years be offered an apprenticeship and by 4 or 5 years have a place in a company. That would certainly be the ideal pathway for the next years. What dancer inspires you the most? Probably the Australian dancer Steven McRae who is principle with the royal ballet. Any tips for other TDA dancers? Try really hard to understand the importance of criticism. Criticism is given to make you a better dancer. You have to make sacrifices if you want to do well. The way to make it is through hard work which will mean putting more time and effort into dance than other parts of your life.
