We are looking at what Lewis and Clark saw when they reached the Pacific Coast. Makes me feel rather small as I look at this vast expanse of water. The Corp of Engineers built the jetty to keep the silt from building up and blocking the mouth of the Columbia River. Interestingly, the coastline is a mile further west than when Lewis & Clark were here. Thats a lot of silt buildup!!! And thats your history and science lesson for today!!
