We are looking for photos of a historic building on the Charles George VA Medical Center campus. It was announced in July that Building 9, a three story structure on the west side of Riceville Rd., on the Medical Center campus, is going to be renovated to house VA Mental Health programs. The design phase of the renovation starts in the spring of 2014, and construction is scheduled to start in fall 2015. The Medical Center does not have a history office or official historian so we do not have photos of the interior or exterior of the structure that dates to the 1930s. Anyone who has interior or exterior photos of Building 9 that they would be willing to donate to the Medical Center should mail those photos to the Public Affairs Officer, Charles George VA Medical Center, 1100 Tunnel Rd., Asheville, NC 28805; or e-mail them to [email protected]. Building 9 was originally a nurses dormitory and was last used in the 1980s. Today, no one is allowed inside due to lead paint and asbestos hazards.
