We are not brains in jars. Bad family lives, lack of - TopicsExpress

We are not brains in jars. Bad family lives, lack of meaningful work, estranged and difficult relationships, difficulty making ends meet, all sorts of problems with expectations and disappointment and life not being what you would like, resentment and jealousy toward others, hostile or indifferent work environments, low pay, too much pressure at work or just having a bad fit at your company, unemployment, feeling trapped in your family life or wishing you had a family, abandonment and break ups, the deaths or illnesses of loved ones or pets, isolation, the rat race, boredom, bad nutrition, the ugliness of cities and suburbs, recovering from war and disease and destruction, addiction and abuse... I could go on. I really could. These are all things that cause depression and suicide. Many of these things that result from depression as well. Sure, our brains are a soup of chemicals and some of us are just wired wrong. But all of these things rewire our chemicals in our brain as well. Its a feedback loop. Analyzing someones problems as if they are a science experiment in a void just seems incomplete to me. What happened? Its specific, not general. Its personal. If its just chemical eventually a drug will fix it. But its not that. Some peoples lives suck and they dont know how to change it.
