Repost: I wouldnt be where I am today if it wasnt for those who gave me the life changing opportunity to participate in DEBATE in high school. I may never get to thank them personally and do not even know who all of them are, but I will be forever grateful to them. Not only did I learn to become an advocate for myself and my community, I met people who helped me grow as a person and whose love and support I still lean on today. I also wouldnt be where I am today if I did not have the opportunity, when I was a teacher, to coach some of the most amazing people Ive ever met on the Crenshaw Debate Team. Those students I was able to work with changed my life forever and made me a better person in so many ways. I have seen how much debate has changed the lives of my students and am constantly reminded of how much it has done for me. Even after I left teaching, my work with the debate league continues to be one of the most important and fulfilling things I do in my life. It has kept me grounded through law school and is a constant reminder of what really matters and why I will continue to fight for the world I want my future kids (and my debate kids) to grow up in. The Los Angeles Metropolitan Debate League provides debate for 450 students from 19 different schools on a very limited budget but with a lot of love. PLEASE help us, in whatever way you can, continue to provide this amazing opportunity for our students and to continue to build the advocates our communities need.
