We are pleased to announce our plans for the next phase of development for Jisc Historic Books. As our contract with our current partners is coming to an end, we undertook a procurement process over the summer and selected Knowledge Integration (k-int/) to work with Mimas and Jisc Collections to design and build a new platform. The new platform will be built using open source software and will include a new user interface. We have listened to feedback from the community, and in response to this the new system will incorporate many of the additional features that have already been requested. The development will take place over two phases, with the focus on developing the essential features first in phase one and further desirable features in phase two. Phase one starts now, November 2013, and is expected to end around Easter 2014. At the end of phase one, the new system will incorporate many of the additional features that have been requested by the community for the current system. Phase two development will follow and continue until summer 2014. Details of some of the key features to be developed in phase one will be released shortly so watch this space! We’re keen to ensure the platform meets the needs of the community, so the Jisc Historic Books Advisory Board and User Group will be consulted throughout the development process. We’ll be providing project progress updates on our website, so you’ll have the opportunity to see how the new system is evolving, and we’ll be asking for your input and feedback too.
