We are posting the following information in an attempt to reduce some of the discussion which often accompanies our requests for assistance with missing persons enquiries: There is no set time limit before a person can be reported missing. Factors such as age, previous history and vulnerability must be taken into account. Certain individuals are classed as children in the eyes of the law even though they are over 16 (and up to 21). If an individual is in residential care and absconds then certain protocols must be followed, one of which is that they are reported to Police almost immediately. Police must, and will, carry out enquiries with known previous associates of persons who have been reported missing in an attempt to trace them. Police DO NOT tag people.
