We are quite saddened at the events that transpired over the weekend with regards to a Group Home in Etobicoke. It is unfortunate that in this day and age there are still individuals who do not believe that everyone has a right to be integrated into society. It is imperative that we shift what we think is the ‘norm’ and accept that everyone is different, instead of judging others. We need to embrace diversity and continue to enable opportunities. I encourage people that have group homes or day programs in their neighborhood to contact the agency and ask to learn more. Perhaps go for a tour of the day program, or speak to a representative so that you can have your questions answered and gain a deeper understanding about autism and the mental health sector. In times like this, it is vital that communities come together to support one another and reinforce the importance of inclusion and acceptance within our society.
