We are starting to use the following chant before each class. The version we chose is by Deva Premal. It is a verse from the Isha Upanishad, a brief ancient classic that describes the nature of ‘Supreme Consciousness. Note the recurrence of the word ‘poornam’ which can mean full, or whole, or complete. These words are different in meaning so we use all three words to describe ‘THAT’ (Adaha)! Om Poornam-ada-ha, poornam-idam, Poor-nath poorna-mudach-yate, Poor-nashya poornam-adaya, Poornam-eva-va-shishyate. Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti. Om THAT is full, whole and complete, This is full, whole, and complete, The full, whole, and complete comes out of the full, whole, and complete, Taking the full, whole, and complete from the full, whole, and complete, The full, whole, and complete itself remains. Om peace, peace, peace.
