We are very grateful to Colin Howey, who has raised £700 along with his pal, Tim Read and his trusty dog, Charlie, by climbing Hellvellyn and traversing the fearsome and sometimes deadly Striding Edge. The duo and the dog did it in loving memory of Colins dear dad Robbie Howey, who died at St Cuthberts Hospice on July 5th this year. They went with a bunch of other people. Colin said: We were all doing the climb for our own personal reasons and Tim Read and myself were raising money for St.Cuthbert’s Hospice. I have recently lost my father and best friend Robbie Howey to Cancer and wanted to give something back to the staff who helped to care and support both him and our family. My Dad was a big strong man, with a big heart who fought to the very end. He was a real family man and although not related in blood terms, one of your member’s of staff Faye used to call him “Uncle Robbie”. He said the clib was difficult, occasionally dangerous. He had to carry Charlie the dog at times. But he said: The scenery was beautiful and reaching the top was an amazing moment for us all. We really felt as though we had accomplished something special. Colin added: In total Tim and myself raised £700 for your Hospice and we want to keep the momentum going by doing something different next year.
