We are warning retail premises to remain vigilant over a deception - TopicsExpress

We are warning retail premises to remain vigilant over a deception scheme that has taken place at various locations in Moray, Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen. The perpetrators, all of Eastern European or Asian appearance, use distraction techniques while attempting to change banknotes for different denominations and then changing their minds, leaving a shortfall in the banknotes that are returned. Over the weekend, a number of different premises were targeted, mainly without any success and a joint investigation is being carried out by Police Scotland officers from the Aberdeenshire and Moray division along with Aberdeen City Division. Inspector Colin Mowat of Police Scotland said: Retailers have been very good in following advice that has previously gone out, however we would ask them and their staff to be wary at all times of any approach to change money. If they are at all suspicious then they should refuse such requests and contact the police. Anyone with any information regarding these crimes or the people involved should contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
