We at Dogs Deserve Better like to give the truth. We dont like people to get threatened and we dont like dogs to be stolen out of good situations. We arent in Danville Va and so we will go by what the Humane Society tells us that this little Jack Russell is not in Harms way and we are sorry for any trouble we might have caused the owner. We hope that the owner will continue to take good care and spend quality time with this little guy. NO DOG SHOULD EVER HAVE TO LIVE ALL ALONE. THIS email JUST IN: I am the owner of the house and dog at 509 W. Main St in Danville Va. The story that was reported to you was very incorrect and if that person or persons paid attention they would have realized the dog is with me 90 percent of the time. Yes I travel and the dog goes with me. I have attached some pictures of the dog that was taken this morning. THIS ALSO IN FROM THE HUMANE SOCIETY IN DANVILLE VA: We have never done this before, but the situation merits it. Complaints about a skinny dog being kept in an unoccupied home on West Main Street have escalated to a dangerous level. A national group has been contacted, and some people (not associated with the national group) have encouraged people to break into the house and steal the dog. E-mails and Facebook messages poured into us all weekend. The Danville Area Humane Society and the Danville Police Department are being criticized for not helping the dog. In the past, our director, Paulette Dean, has spoken with the owner of the dog. Police officers have been sent to the house. We just came from speaking with the owner and looking at the dog. Here is the story: The dog is a beyond-adorable little dog. He is not thin in the least; a veterinarian may call him chubby. His owner does stay away from home 3-4 days at a time, but he takes the dog with him. The owner does work long shifts when he is on duty with the fire department, but lots of people have that same situation. The people who are complaining about the dog barking and whining in the house are hearing a neighbors dogs. The dogs owner has seen the rumors about someone breaking into his house to steal the dog, and has now asked for the police to keep an eye on his property. The owner, a fire fighter, actually left work to take his dog to a safe place while he finished his shift because he was so afraid someone was going to steal his dog. The dog is friendly and was very comfortable in his owners arms during our conversation. The house is up for sale, but is still occupied. It is very clean and well-furnished. As our regular followers know, we rely on people filing complaints about animals being neglected, and we are grateful for the concern. However, in this case, the complaints are simply not valid. The dog is cute, plump, clean, and friendly. His shots are up-to-date. He goes with his owner when he is gone for 3-4 days. He does stay alone when his beloved human companion works, but the same is said of many people. The owner was very friendly, happy we came to visit, and is worried about all the rumors. The Internet is wonderful, until false information is spread.
