We at Yuhua launched the Clean & Green Singapore in our estate last Sunday to inspire our fellow residents to care for and protect our environment. As it was “No Cleaners’ Day” the volunteers and I started the morning by cleaning some of the blocks at Jurong East. We cleared the void deck and common areas of litter, and washed the void decks. We found many litters around the kitchen and the back of the flats. Cigarette buds, tissue paper and cotton buds were found in many places. Keeping the estate clean is definitely a mammoth task if we were to rely only on our cleaners. We should do more by not littering. After we were done cleaning the estate, the volunteers and I proceeded to the official opening of J Link. We planted trees along this unique pedestrian mall where residents can enjoy the greenery as they make their way from Jurong East MRT Station to the various upcoming developments to the Jurong Lake District.
