We blew in some additional insulation in an attic for a customer - TopicsExpress

We blew in some additional insulation in an attic for a customer today. The house was built in 1998 and had cellulose insulation which is basically ground up newspaper. The depth of the cellulose (newspaper) was likely around 8-10 inches originally, but as you can see in the second photo, it has settled several inches since which lowers the R-Value and increases energy costs. The ceiling joists are 2x6s which are 5 1/2 inches tall and the cellulose is lower than them now in the center. We use Insul Safe SP by Certainteed which is a pure white fiberglass loose fill insulation that doesnt settle like cellulose and does a great job. As you can see in the 3rd photo we added an additional 14-15 inches of insulation which will lower energy costs and make the home more comfortable.
