We celebrate the day the war for independence was declared, July 4th but not when the war to end slavery was declared, April 15. The revolutionary war was to free ourselves, but the civil war was partly declared to free others from slavery, although there were other reasons for it, I know. Many people in the Union states died to make others free. Maybe its because its also the day that taxes are due April 15 that we ignore it?
