We did a presentation on sustainable/energy efficient homes at the Red Pheasant band office sans the main man as he was out there fighting a prairie fire. Up here, we call it forest fire. Lots of smoke around the rez, and even along the highway smouldering and smoke haze. We had a great share with some of the council members, and we piqued their interests. We are going to be headed back there at some other time as the chief will be needing to hear this. Have you ever thought of building a straw bale home for yourself? Complete with alternative energy? If you live in a prairie land, this is where you must go. Forest home? Trees, and very life-giving! Just get out there and do the work. AANDC Housing is a sovereignty-less program. The existing structure material is full of deadly chemical material and very dangerous to your health. Its like being close to a fracking site. Not only that, the program dollars is doled out forcing many bands deep into bank loans to off-set the housing shortage. The housing pressure helps create internal strife, continuous, leading to disintegration of an already-vulnerable social realities of the rez people. The CMHC is a part of the chemical look, so seeing all those fancy buildings people mortgage all their lives in urban settings, are on par with all buildings all over the nation - full of chemicals/fire retardants and reflective of the dangers of this consumer world. Insidious is the word as children are raised and grown in these buildings. Thanks to Big Ben for getting our collective feet into the doors of your rezs housing. It was great to see you, and meeting the elected, as well as the elder Mr. Bugler.
