We did it! I am humbled and thankful to have been re-nominated to represent our diverse district in the New York State Senate. I couldn’t have done it without your hard work and support. From Marble Hill, to Inwood and Washington Heights, to the Upper West Side and all the way to Chelsea, families in our community are facing similar challenges and needs. In the coming year, the state’s rent laws protecting over two million tenants are set to expire – I am committed to renewing and strengthening these safeguards, and expanding the Tenant Protection Unit to crack down on predatory landlord abuses. And I am truly optimistic that we will be able to pass state-level immigration reforms, including the DREAM Act, and finally give voice to hardworking immigrants who have been unfairly punished by our broken immigration system. The potential to meaningfully transform families’ and young people’s lives for the better is stronger than ever today. I am also excited to fight for raising the minimum wage, increasing education resources for our children, toughening gun violence laws, protecting our environment and permanently banning hydrofracking, and working to make our streets safe for pedestrians and cyclists from reckless driving.
