We didnt want to say anything until we knew she was mostly ok, but Piggles Purcell spent last night in the veterinary emergency room after we came home from a movie and found her in extreme pain for unknown reasons. They emergency vet recommended transfer to a specialty surgery center to be assessed by a neurologist for a possible herniated disc in her spine due to weakness in her back legs and some neurological deficits observed. We got home at 2am after Piggy was admitted to the hospital. At 1pm today she underwent an MRI and there is a small disc rupture but it appears most of her symptoms are coming from a blood clot that formed during the rupture and extrusion of disc material. They are going to transition her to oral pain meds tonight/tomorrow and she will be on strict crate rest for six weeks, probably coming home from the hospital in two days. Surgery is not off the table, but for now, the doctor is hopeful we can manage this medically and the clot will dissipate on its own time. We love that damn dog so much...this has been extremely emotional, but were very hopeful shes on the road to recovery.
