We dont need any more proof of this fact. Every responsible historian has known this for years. The whole states rights canard is a total red herring that only works if you dont know, which most people dont, that in the decades before the Civil War, the biggest states rights issue was how to decide if new states would allow slavery or not, starting with the Missouri Compromise in 1823, which admitted MO as a slave state and ME as a free state to maintain the balance between the two sides in the Senate. To posit slavery and states rights as mutually exclusive propositions is only to display a fundamental historical ignorance. Also, there is no such thing as states rights. The only entities that have rights in our system are human beings, and no state has the right to deprive its citizens of their rights. Stop it.
