We explored a truly amazing part of Australia last week - the Kimberley in West Oz. We were fortunate to be aboard our family friends boat the Great Escape, which is one of the most respected and longest running cruise vessels in the area. It was a profound experience for Nic and I to share with the kids and to be able to once again teach them where real food comes from and how and why it is what we have evolved to eat. We were mindful to only catch enough fish or crabs for what we were going to cook or eat raw for that day. We taught the girls how to prepare the fish without any going to waste and they clearly understood the logic behind the fact that we were taking a life for our own health. Watching the natural cycle of life in this unique wilderness, from the crocs, sharks, dolphins, fish, birds and insects gave us an inspiring insight and understanding of how the indigenous people of the land lived. Their respect for nature and the land (especially depicted in their mesmorising ancient rock art) for thousands of years in this area is something I believe we can all learn from!
