We get calls from time to time from people confused where they - TopicsExpress

We get calls from time to time from people confused where they live. It seems simple enough, but sometimes if you dont understand the mechanics of city limits, addresses, school districts etc., it can be confusing. Many locations in Prairie Grove City Limits have Farmington Addresses which are simply a designation used by the post office to determine mail routes. Likewise Farmington has locations in their City Limits that have Prairie Grove addresses. It can be a problem for cities because many taxes are determined by point of sales. If you order a pizza and its delivered to your home the pizza company will charge you sales tax based on where you live. If you have anything delivered to your house the point of sales, sales tax should be based on where its delivered to and the sales tax passed on to that city. School Districts routinely cross over city limits lines and many in the City of Farmington go to Prairie Grove Schools for example. So why dont we just ask the US post office to change the address designations? We have, multiple times. Recently the post office told us to quit asking for at least 5 years. We are allowed to ask again in 2019 and they will review it again then. The post office claims its is too expensive to change the addresses and it is not their problem. Their addresses are for delivering mail and zip codes are in place to streamline that process and shouldnt be used for other data gathering purpose. The reality is however that zip codes are used for all sorts of purposes and a little cooperation would be appreciated.
