We got a Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company catalog and boy is it - TopicsExpress

We got a Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company catalog and boy is it purty. And FULL of stuff. Im sure we were among their very first customers actually, way back when. But when looking at varieties, it is too easy to get too many, or too exotic. Weve found in our hard corn, for example, that we like and we grow reliably Hickory King and Bloody Butcher. We play with a blue now and again, and had a green for awhile but that is for amusement, not for food. With potatoes, for us, Yukon Gold, Irish Cobs, and Red Pontiacs are the producers and it doesnt much matter that I personally love a russet because only one variety that weve ever found has a short enough season to actually grow here. We always grow lots of bean varieties, but McCaslins are one because they are also, to us, Zella beans, named for my grandmother. BUT I already found a carrot variety that Im sure will become our favorite: Oxheart. So, head to the seeds people! And please people, grow organically. rareseeds/
