We had a great day learning about the kids-vision.org program helping connect girls in economically depressed areas in the south bay with Silicon Valley companies--- encouraging the girls to learn how math and science can be fun and interesting. A big thanks to my friend Fabiola Kramsky for letting me know about this group. The program was founded by Maria Celerier and she is passionate about bring in more and more companies to work with these girls in an after school program. Meteorologist Mike Nicco and my co-anchor Kristen Sze took time to chat and inspire the girls. We also had great help from Director Jerry Sandy, Stage manager John Bennett and Sirena Cooksey...all taking time out of a busy day to share their time and stories. The girls spend their time at the companies that agree to participate, including RocketFuel Mozilla Tesla Motors That is just so cool! You might be looking at the future of Silicon Valley, once these girls get their skills in place! We already practiced shaking hands, looking people in the eye and being assertive. Please take a look at the website and share this with anyone who might want to mentor the girls. Lets help Maria expand this concept to every child!
