We had a lovely time at Em-Con at the weekend, but the event did have some issues. It was very overcrowded, and the queues outside were awful. At least it was sunny weather, and Frazer went out to chat to some of the people queuing ... I suspect the organisers were caught on the hop, with the entire genre-loving population of Nottingham turning out for the event ... and only around 1000 allowed to enter at a time! The place was packed and movement was very restricted. Not happy to see that, but not much we can do as guests either ... I know that the organisers are well aware of the problems, and worked to try and solve them on the day. The afternoon was a little easier to breathe as a result. But the people we did meet were all happy and friendly, smiling faces ... and it was an impressive guest list! Probably why so many attendees turned out! Sam and I chatted with Dave Prowse, a legend! And Sam swapped gossip with Eve Myles ... We saw the lovely Chris Barrie and Danny John Jules again, and I caught up with Lee Sullivan after way too many years! As I say, if you got in, it was a cracking event, but the issues of overcrowding and the queues of ticket holding patrons was not good (not to mention the equally long queue of non-ticket holding people who had turned up on the off chance!). I hope the organisers will do the right thing by everyone, and ensure that next year, the vast crowds are better accommodated in a much larger venue.
